The Records and Art Behind the Designs
Many of the designs in this store come straight from my records, my live shows and my band. Some carry an album title, some a song, and some are drawings that simply feel like my music. Here's the story behind them.
What are songs and instrumentals?
In spring 2020, I recorded two albums in a small pine cabin in Westhampton, Massachusetts: songs, eleven tracks including "anything" and "dragon eyes", and instrumentals, two long wordless pieces. The artwork used watercolour paintings by my grandmother, Diane Lee.
The designs: a burst of painted red and yellow flowers with both titles in red script, and a two-sided version with the titles on the front and the full painting on the back.
Which song has the bird?
"Not a Lot, Just Forever" is one of the best-loved songs on songs. The design pairs the title with a finely inked bird in flight.
What is Live at Revolution Hall?
My first live album came out in April 2025. It was recorded mostly at Revolution Hall in Portland, Oregon, in June 2024, and I described it as "43 tracks, 32 songs".
The design: a hazy wash of pink and lime light with the album name running down the side.
Where do Big Thief and Buck Meek come in?
I sing and play guitar in Big Thief, so the band has its own corner of the collection: a rainbow-breathing dragon, two painted dogs, a glowing purple loop, a horse that spells out "BT" and a storybook stage. Guitarist Buck Meek, my bandmate and a songwriter with solo albums of his own, has two designs too.
And the rest?
Some designs are just quiet pictures: sunflowers under a full moon, a figure in a cowboy hat hugging a dog, and a cut-paper eye with a candle and a spiral.
Every one comes on tees, hoodies and sweatshirts. Browse the collection and find the one that sounds like your favourite song.
