Who I Am: My Songs, My Band, My Story
Before you pick a design, here's a short guide to who I am, where I come from and the records the designs come from.
Where do I come from?
I was born Adrianne Elizabeth Lenker in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1991 and grew up mostly in Minnesota. I was home-schooled, earned my GED at 16, and went on to study at the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship.
How did Big Thief begin?
Before the band, I played as a duo with guitarist Buck Meek, and we released a-sides and b-sides in 2014. In 2015 we formed Big Thief in Brooklyn, New York, with me on lead vocals and guitar. Drummer James Krivchenia completes today's trio.
What have I made on my own?
Alongside the band, I keep a solo career with its own sound:
- abysskiss (2018)
- songs and instrumentals (2020), recorded in a one-room cabin in Western Massachusetts
- Bright Future (2024), with the single "Ruined"
- Live at Revolution Hall (2025), my first live album, recorded mostly in Portland, Oregon
Bright Future was nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2025 Grammys.
What do my songs care about?
The detail. My songs notice small, everyday things and make them feel huge.
The intimacy. Whether it's a cabin recording or a full band, I want it to feel close.
The nature. Lakes, trees and animals turn up again and again, in my songs and in the art on these designs.
Every piece at Adrianne Lenker Merch comes on tees, hoodies, sweatshirts and kids' sizes, with a size chart on each product page.
